Using MINDA, you can record when an animal has received health treatments. When recording a Health treatment in MINDA, you'll need to know:

  • Date the animal(s) were diagnosed and/or treated

  • Animal ID

  • Diagnosis

  • Treatment/dosage rate

  • Quarters (if applicable)

  • Withholding information

  • Vet details (if applicable)

How do I record a Health Event?

Select Event Recorder from the dashboard and then select Health Record from the list of available Events. Next go through the steps on screen.

Step 1. Select date

Select the date the animal was diagnosed and/or treated. If the date was earlier, click Earlier then use the calendar to select the right date.

Step 2. Choose your animal(s)

Select the animals you're recording a Health Record for. If the animals are in a specific Group, you can change the Group to show only those animals otherwise, you can search for the animal if you know their ID.

Once you've selected the animals, they'll be moved to the right hand side as shown above. If you need to remove any animals, use the x.

Step 3. Select diagnosis

Choose a diagnosis. Any recently used diagnosis will show at the top otherwise scroll through the list or use the search bar.

Step 4. Select the treatment

Choose the treatment. Any recently used products will show at the top otherwise scroll through the list or use the search bar.

Step 5. Add dosage information

Here you'll need to add details about the dosage such as:

  • Number of doses

  • Amount per dose

  • Unit i.e. tube, ml, gram etc

  • Frequency

  • Interval

For example, we have an animal receiving Intracillin 1000 Milking Cow. She will have a total of 3 doses with each dose being 1 tube. She will receive 1 dose per day. Since the animal will be having more than 1 dose, a Treatment Plan will be created.

Note: When an animal receives more than 1 dose, a Treatment Plan is created and you'll need to add in the frequency and interval. If the animal is only receiving 1 dose, you won't need to include this.

Step 6. Schedule doses

Check the planned dates and times. If you've administered any doses, update the administered date and time otherwise leave blank.

Note: If you're only recording a Health Record with 1 dose, make sure to fill out the administered date.

Important: If you update the administered dates to be the same as the planned dates, the Treatment Plan will automatically complete.

Step 7. Select affected quarters

Choose which quarter you're treating (if applicable).

Step 8. Choose separation date

Choose if and when the animal was separated from the herd.

Step 9. Add withholding periods

Add in the meat and milk withholding periods. Using the start date of treatment and the withholding information, a return to vat date will be calculated and shown below.

Step 10. Add vet details

If you'd like to add in vet details, you can do this below otherwise click No vet consulted.

Step 11. Review and finish

Review the details you've entered. If you need to edit anything, click Change or use the Back button otherwise click Finish or Save and add a new treatment.

The Event should now show in the Holding Pen where you can approve it.

Things to note when managing Treatment Plans in MINDA

If you're recording a retrospective treatment i.e. the animal has already been treated, you will only need to approve the Health Event in the Holding Pen.

If however you're recording the treatment in real time, you'll need to first approve the Health Event and then approve each dose in the Holding Pen as its given. To learn more about recording doses, check out our article Understanding Health Records.

Important: Each dose needs to be approved in the order that its given. If they aren't approved in that order, you will receive errors in the Holding Pen.

Once a Treatment Plan is finished, make sure to complete it. For help with completing Treatment Plans, check out our article Understanding Health Records. You should now be able to view and report on health information from within the Treatment Register.
