Using MINDA, you can record when an animal has calved. When recording a calving in MINDA, you'll need to know:

  • Date the animal(s) calved

  • Animal ID

  • Sex of the calf

  • Fate

  • Birth ID of calf (if applicable)

  • Calving notes/comments

How do I record a Calving Event?

Select Event Recorder from the dashboard and then select Calving from the list of available Events. Next go through the steps on screen.

Step 1. Select date

Select the date the animal calved. If the date was earlier, click Earlier then use the calendar to select the right date.

Step 2. Choose your animal(s)

Select the animals you're recording a Calving Event for. If the animals are in a specific Group, you can change the Group to show only those animals otherwise, you can search for the animal if you know their ID.

Once you've selected the animals, they'll be moved to the right hand side as shown above. If you need to remove any animals, use the x.

Note: Calving's which results in a calf being given an official ID need to be recorded individually. However, if you have animals that calved on the same day and their calves are not receiving an official ID, you can select them all in the screen above.

Step 3. Select the sex of the calf

If you don't need to record any calf details, use the Don't record calf details option which will take you to the summary screen.

Step 3. Select the fate

If you're rearing the calf, you'll need to know the BID it'll be given otherwise all other fates will take you to the summary screen.

Note: If you've selected multiple animals in step 2, Reared or Sold won't show.

Reared calf

When recording a reared calf, you'll need to enter in a few more details such as:

  • Birth ID

  • Production type (if applicable)

  • NAIT location (if applicable)

If you've opted in for LIC to be your NAIT information provider, you'll need to choose the NAIT location the animal was born at as well as the production type of the calf i.e. if the calf is a heifer that you're intending to keep as a replacement, choose Dairy as the production type.

Step 4. Review and finish

Review the details you've entered. There's a few extra things you can do here including:

  • Add calving notes/comments

  • Add another calf (if you're recording twins)

  • Add another calving

Similar to other Events, if you need to edit anything, click Change or use the Back button otherwise click Finish.

Note: If you've opted in for LIC to be your NAIT information provider, you'll see a message letting you know that NAIT will be updated.

The Event should now show in the Holding Pen where you can approve it.
