Using MINDA, you can record the bulls you use at the tail end of mating by creating a Run with Bull Event. When recording a Run with Bull Event in MINDA, you'll need to know:

  • Start & end date

  • Animal ID

Things to note

We recommend recording run with bull mating's IF you're intending to keep calves from these mating's. Why? Recording a run with bull mating will ensure that a sire is recorded for the calves you keep from the tail end of mating.

We strongly recommend recording your run with bull mating's in 3 week blocks. Why? MINDA looks 14 days either side of the run with bull start date to determine a sire. Adding a new run with bull event 28 days after means our systems can match a sire to the mating's.

If you're recording multiple bulls, you'll need to record the bulls with a staggered date. I.e. 3 the bulls went into the cows on the 12th October. To record this in MINDA, you'll need to record bull 1 on the 12th October, bull 2 on the 13th and bull 3 on the 14th October.

How do I record a Run With Bull Event?

Select Event Recorder from the dashboard and then select Run with Bull from the list of available Events. Next go through the steps on screen.

Step 1. Select run type

Select the run type.

Step 2. Select date

Select the date for the run type you're recording i.e. start date, end date or both.

Step 3. Choose your animal(s)

Select the animals you're recording a Run with Bull for. If the animals are in a specific Group, you can change the Group to show only those animals otherwise, you can search for the animal if you know their ID.

Once you've selected the animals, they'll be moved to the right hand side as shown above. If you need to remove any animals, use the x.

Step 4. Review and finish

Review the details you've entered. If you need to edit anything, click Change or use the Back button otherwise click Finish.

Note: To record bull details, click Change and then select the bull. If the bull isn't in the herd, you can still add its BID and save.

The Event should now show in the Holding Pen where you can approve it.
