Cows are given production values for the following traits

  1. Fat

  2. Protein

  3. Milk volume

  4. Liveweight

These are combined into a Production Worth (PW), which measures the cow’s ability to convert feed into profit over her lifetime. The reliability of a cow’s PW is based strongly on her herd testing history. Focusing on PW, the Production tab looks at the average PW for your different age groups, average kilograms per milksolids (kgMS) and any unusual trends or abnormalities at the most recent herd test.

Production worth (PW) by age group

Focusing on PW, use this graph to see how the different age groups in your herd compare the the whole herd average. To see the number of animals in an age group and their average PW, click on one of the bars.

Note: The dark blue bar is the whole herd average.

Milksolids summary graph

This graph shows average kilograms of milksolids per animal for the herd test you've selected, as well as previous seasons. The green bar represents your currently selected herd test while the grey line above makes it easier to compare to the same time last year. By clicking on the bars below, you'll can view how may animals were present at each herd test.

By default, the graph will display Whole Herd Milksolids but you can change this anytime by scrolling down and selecting:

  • Milksolids whole herd or 2 year olds

  • Fat whole herd or 2 year olds

  • Protein whole herd or 2 year olds

The Milksolids summary graph also breaks down Milksolids, fat & protein for both the whole herd and 2 year olds for the selected herd test. Similar to the first graph, the green bar represents your currently selected herd test while the other bars are your past herd tests.

Unusual trends or production patterns

This table highlights any unusual trends or production patterns for the selected herd herd test. Cows will show in the table if their production patterns have deviated from the normal due to:

  • Milk volume - the PM sample exceeds the AM sample by 25% and the total volume is more than 13 litres.

  • Fat Test - has changed more than 25% than that for the previous test.

  • Somatic Cell Count - has changed more than expected from the previous test.

  • 'Not Normal' - any tests recorded as abnormal will show, along with any assessed test results, if applicable.
