What is the Return Interval Analysis by year (AB Only) graph?
The Return Interval Analysis by year (AB Only) graph compares your short, normal and long return rates to previous seasons. This allows you to see the effectiveness of your heat detection strategy on a year by year basis. The graph uses Eligible Cows (or the selected group) and the goal is to have less than 13% short returns and less than 18% long returns. If rates are exceeded, the colour of the graph will change from blue to red.
How do I read Return Interval Analysis by year (AB Only)?
The Return Interval Analysis by year (AB Only) graph shows return rates on the left and previous seasons along the bottom. Each bar represents a season and the grey line is the Normal Return Target. It uses the total number of short, normal and long returns for each season which is represented on the graph as a different colour. The way return rates are calculated is explained in the Return Interval Analysis article. The table below provides a break down of intervals, return rates and targets for each season.
Return Interval Analysis by Year (AB Only) breakdown
Each bar represents a season with each colour showing the portion of short, normal and long returns.
Normal Return Target
Each colour represents if return rates have exceeded or are below industry targets. Below is a more detailed breakdown.
Red short return: Return rate is more than the industry target of 13%.
Blue short return: Return rate is less than the industry target of 13%.
Normal return: Return rate is less than or equal to 69% and will only ever be the light blue colour.
Red long return: Return rate is more than the industry target of 18%.
Blue long return: Return rate is less than the industry target of 18%.
The table gives a break down of intervals, return rates and targets for each season.
Things to note
For the graph to provide accurate results, we recommend having at least 50 returns recorded. If you have less, you'll see the message "The information in this graph could be misleading as the following seasons have less than 50 AB returns recorded: Spring 20xx, Spring 20xx."
If you're having issues loading the graph, double check that your calvings have been recorded correctly i.e. were not recorded as bulk with the same date.
