Groups are a great way to manage your animals but what type of Group should I use? Depending on what you're trying to achieve, you might need a PYO Group, a Rules Group or maybe a permanent Group might work. If you're unsure, lets have a look at all the different types of Group there are in MINDA:
Rules
Pick Your Own (PYO)
Permanent
NAIT (If you have connected NAIT & MINDA)
Configurable
Split
Rules
Using attributes, set parameters and filters to only show specific animals. I.e. to see all your empty cows, create a Rules based Group and use the attribute Pregnancy Diagnosis to only show cows which have a pregnancy diagnoses of empty. Depending if animals match the rules, they'll automatically drop in or out of the Group.
Note: There's a maximum of 6 filters per Rules based Group.
Pick Your Own Group (PYO)
If you have a list of animals or know which animals you want in a Group, you can create a PYO Group. As the title suggests, this is a Group where you specifically pick the animals yourself and you can select any animals from within in your herd.
Permanent
When you first set up a herd in MINDA, you'll have some Groups already created for you. These are mostly year born, age Groups and other Groups i.e. Whole herd, In Milk, Dry Cows etc. These Groups can't be deleted or edited but you can copy the Group to edit it.
NAIT
NAIT Groups will show if you have MINDA & NAIT connected and have recorded NAIT Events in MINDA. These Groups show you which NAIT location your animals are in i.e. if you recorded a NAIT movement to send animals to grazing, this will create a NAIT Group for that location and show the animals you moved.
Note: NAIT Groups do not reflect any movements created directly in NAIT.
Configurable
Similar to Permanent Groups, Configurable Groups are already created for you when you set up a herd in MINDA. The only difference is that Configurable Groups can be edited & modified to suit your needs.
Split
Using the Split Groups feature, you can split a Group into a maximum of 5 sub-groups based on 1 Attribute. I.e. say you wanted to sell half of your 2020 born animals. To do this, you'll want to split these animals into 2 Groups with equal BW. Depending on how many sub-groups you've created, you'll have 1 (master) split Group and the other Groups will be PYO Groups.
