Written by Cindy Inverarity

The Farm tab provides an overview of your farm and paddocks. From here, you can record farm activities, review and edit paddock information and access Land & Feed tools such as the Feed Wedge and Paddock Rank.

Actions

The Actions menu provides quick access to tools that help you review paddock performance and your current feed situation:

  • Paddock List

  • Paddock Rank

  • Feed Wedge

Farm Map

The Farm Map provides a visual overview of your farm, with each paddock shown as a pin. Select a paddock to view information specific to it, including its history and events recorded against it. If your farm changes, you can update the farm map at anytime.

Note: For step-by-step instructions on setting up your farm map and adding paddocks, see our article Setting up Land & Feed.

Paddocks

Under the Farm Map, the Paddocks section provides a list view of all paddocks on your farm with the total farm area at the bottom. The list shows the most recent cover recorded for each paddock and whether a paddock is out of rotation.

Select View paddock rank to compare paddock production.

Note: Selecting a paddock from the list displays the same information as selecting its pin on the Farm Map.

Paddock Rank

Paddock rank helps you understand and compare paddock performance across your farm. Paddocks are ranked from highest to lowest based on their production for the chosen timeframe.

The paddock with the highest production is shown at the top of the list and has a full blue bar. The other paddocks are shown relative to the highest-producing paddock.

Paddock rank is calculated using:

  • recorded pasture covers, including farm walk covers and pre and post-grazing covers recorded with a grazing event

  • pasture growth rates

  • silage or hay that has been cut

Use Change date range to compare paddock production over different time periods.

Note: If there isn't enough information to calculate a paddock's growth rate for the selected period, the farm average growth rate is used instead. This can happen when:

  • the calculated growth rate is negative, usually because the paddock has been grazed or harvested

  • the cover readings are too far apart

  • there is no recorded cover before the current cover

Record

The Record menu lets you record farm activities and Events, including:

  • Pasture cover

  • Fertiliser application

  • Effluent application

  • Cut silage/hay

  • Grazing

  • Irrigation

  • Feed out

  • Other event

  • Remove from rotation

  • Return to rotation

Most farm activities and events will require a date, details of the activity or event and the paddock. When selecting paddocks, select a pin to include that paddock. Select the pin again to remove it from the event. You can edit recorded events and activities from the History tab.

Note: Some recording options are only available when all paddocks on the farm have an area recorded. If an option isn't available, check that an area has been added for every paddock.

For step-by-step instructions on setting up your farm map and adding paddocks, see our article Setting up Land & Feed.

Paddocks in and out of rotation

If a paddock is temporarily unavailable for grazing, it can be removed from rotation using the Remove from rotation option under the record menu. Paddocks that are out of rotation are excluded from farm walks and pasture cover recording. When the paddock becomes available again, return it to rotation.

To remove paddocks from rotation or return them to rotation:

  1. Select Remove from rotation or Return to rotation, depending on the paddock's current status.

  2. Select the paddocks.

  3. Once you've selected your paddocks, select Finished selecting paddocks.
